The Red Desert is a large area of about 6 million acres in Wyoming, the southern portion bisected by Interstate 80. The majority of the land is public and is managed by the BLM (Bureau of Land Management). The wild horses living in the Red Desert share the land with large numbers of pronghorn, mule deer and other wildlife, along with cattle, oil wells, gas lines, and coal mines. These horses have always seemed healthy and in good condition, and to see this vast open land it frustrates me that the BLM continually rounds up the wild horses, placing them in holding pens to await adoption, at taxpayer expense, their freedom stolen from them - or worse, to be condemned to slaughter. I urge you to learn more about the plight of our wild horses before they are decimated. Much public land was designated specifically for wild horses years ago, and shamefully it is not being utilized for that purpose.
